Innovation on Show at Metrology Forum

Innovation on Show at Metrology Forum

Added to MTDCNC by Hexagon MI on 19 October 2016

A standard industrial robot controlled in real time by a Leica Absolute AT960 laser tracker was one of the highlights at a metrology forum staged by Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence.

The 7 DoF cell demonstrated how it can achieve a 50um (micron) accuracy over the volume of the robot without using a native application. Thanks to a Leica 6 DoF sensor mounted on the robot and EtherCAT RealTime interface, the robot's position can be corrected up to 1000 times per second.

Around 70 delegates attended the event at the Nuclear AMRC, Rotherham, which comprised a number of Hexagon product displays and presentations by the National Physical Laboratory and Red Bull Racing.

Other products on show not only included Hexagon's new Blaze 600M portable blue light measurement system, a non-contact optical 3D scanning solution for fast inspection and 3D meshing tasks, but also a range of Aicon 3D metrology systems.

Visitors were also able to watch a Leitz PMM-C capture surface roughness measurement data using a Profiler-R sensor and learn more about how Hexagon's PC-DMIS NC software can reduce on machine inspection time.

"The format of the event proved very popular and many delegates said they enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about our latest metrology solutions," commented Steve Shickell, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence's regional sales manager.
