JLR Announces Major Recruitment Drive

Added to MTDCNC by MTDCNC on 19 June 2017

Midlands based automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it will employ an additional 5,000 staff to enhance its expertise in autonomous and electric technology.

The Birmingham business announced it would recruit over 1,000 electronic and software engineers and an additional 4,000 workers across other sectors that will include manufacturing. Most of the jobs will be based in the UK, with recruitment taking place over the next 12 months.

The company is planning to build its first electric vehicle, the I-PACE, in Austria. However, the rapid evolution of electronic vehicle technology means parent company, India's Tata Motors must invest in next generation technology to keep pace with other globally renowned auto brands.

JLR has indicated that it would like to make such models in the UK if conditions such as support from government are met. Jaguar Land Rover has indicated half of all new models will be available in an electric version by the end of the decade, necessitating new skills among its workforce.
