The first of XYZ Machine Tools range of large capacity vertical machining centres has been delivered to longstanding customer D & D Engineering (Hull). The XYZ 2010 VMC weighs in at 20 tonnes and is the largest VMC ever sold and delivered by XYZ Machine Tools, although with two larger variants in the range, this record may not last for long.
The XYZ 2010 VMC is the smallest of a three machine range of large machines on offer from XYZ and features axis travels of 2000, 1000 mm, and 800 mm in XYZ and for a machine of this size is agile with 16, 000 mm/min traverse rates in all axes. As befits a machine of this size construction is substantial with six hardened box slideways on the Y-axis alone. 'The addition of these large VMCs to the XYZ range is in response to a growing need for larger capacity machining centres and to ensure quick delivery we plan to hold stock machines at our factory in Burlescombe, with a XYZ 3010 VMC with a BT50 spindle and ZF gearbox already on its way,' says Nigel Atherton, Managing Director, XYZ Machine Tools.
The machine delivered to D & D Engineering features a 36 hp/8000 revs/min spindle, and a 30 position toolchanger capable of handling tools weighing up to 15 kg, 220 mm diameter and 300 mm in length, it also has a maximum table load of 3000 kg. It will be used across a wide variety of work that D & D Engineering undertakes in the food, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), medical, agricultural, defence, and offshore sectors.
Speaking of its latest acquisition, D & D Engineering’s managing Director, Mark Robinson says: 'We are pleased to be the recipient of the first XYZ machine of its type in the UK and we are confident that it will add significant value to our machining capacity, enhancing our already extensive portfolio of XYZ Machine Tools. The greater capacity of the XYZ 2010 will allow us to compete for new work and produce what we already have more efficiently. As always we would like to thank XYZ for their on-going support, in particular Nigel Atherton and Greg Hall for taking us to Germany to see an existing installation before committing to the order.'
The two larger machines in the range are the XYZ 2510 and 3010 VMC, the larger of which weighs 25 tonne, with an X-axis travel of 3000 mm. The mid-range machine features an X-axis of 2500 mm with both having 1000 mm of travel in the Y-axis and 800 mm in the Z axis. Control is provided by the popular Siemens Sinumerik 828D CNC unit, with ShopMill Conversational Software, also with the ability to download data from CADCAM via USB, CF-card, or Ethernet, making it suitable for a wide variety of customers whose programming needs can differ considerably.
As with all XYZ CNC machines these large VMCs come with three days training at one of XYZ’s regional showrooms, which can be broken into two sessions of two initial days training followed by a further day once the customer has become more familiar with the machine. A 12 month no quibble warranty is also included, which can be extended for an additional six years with XYZ’s extended warranty and service packages.
