MACH Star Purchase is Installed and Running 1 Week after Show for Rotec

Rotec Engineering purchased its tenth Star sliding head turning centre at MACH 2018 and almost as quickly as the congratulatory bottle of bubbly could be consumed, the machine was in and running. Shaking hands on the deal at MACH, Worcestershire based Rotec received the machine mid-week after MACH and it was commissioned and running exactly one-week after the bi-annual event concluded.

Rotec bought its first CNC machine tools some 18 years ago and in the period since, Star has been instrumental in the growth of the company. Now, the 30,000sq/ft area is like a Star showroom with a variety of sliding head turning centres producing parts for the aerospace, offshore, F1 and automotive sectors. AT MACH 2018, the Evesham manufacturer shook hands on the new Star SR20J.

Commenting on the purchase, Managing Director and owner of Rotec Ltd, Mr Paul Butler says: “We bought the machine because we have a huge influx of orders and the new addition will support our capacity requirements. We already have similar machines in our two SR20-III variants and we know that the service from Star will see the new addition be supplied and operational within days.”

Placing the order at MACH 2018, Mr Butler said whilst on the Star stand at the event: “To serve this influx of orders, Star will deliver the machine on the Wednesday after the MACH show and it will be installed over the weekend, so the machine will be delivered, commissioned and running in less than a week. This new addition will basically be in and running almost instantly, this service far beyond most vendors.”

Looking back to the early years of the business and a time when Rotec was using CAM autos and first making a step into CNC machines, Paul Butler says: “The problem I had was a skills shortage and scalability. I couldn’t get enough people or enough hours out of my machines to meet demand. The first Star machine cost £68,000, which was more than my house, but we set it up on the first day and it produced 2,500 parts overnight. Within four months we got rid of our CAM auto machines and started to invest heavily in the Star CNC machines.”

With 10 Star machines on the shop-floor that include six SV32, two SR20III, an SA12 and now the new SR-20J Type C, Star has earned the loyalty of Rotec. As Mr Butler says: “Star has certainly earned its loyalty from Rotec down the years. We get great technology and service and the machines rarely go wrong. For us, it’s about machining the highest quality parts. After the last recession, the parts started to become more complex and that is a real godsend to us as we have the technology to tackle the most challenging work. If I was to give Star a mark out of 10, it would be 11. The recent example at MACH with an almost instantaneous response just goes to show hard Star is prepared to work for its customers.”
