As an OEM manufacturer of high pressure hydraulic tools, controlled force products and solutions for precise positioning of heavy loads, Enerpac products are available worldwide through a network of 1,400 distributor partners. This network is supported by 28 facilities in 22 countries. As you would expect from a globally renowned OEM, manufacturing quality is a key factor. And that is why the Morpeth facility has recently invested in a 5-axis machining centre from Haas.

The company subcontracts a percentage of its work to external suppliers  with key components produced internally. These components are then assembled, packed and delivered worldwide. To retain productivity levels in its machine shop, the company recently purchased a Haas VF 3YT 5-axis machining centre to replace an ageing 5-axis machine. As Mr Bill Dabbs, a team leader at Enerpac says: ' We primarily use Haas machining centres throughout the company and we recently added to our plant list with a new Haas VF 3YT 5-axis machine. This was bought for its fast rapid times and we can program it easier and process parts faster than ever before. We can also get better surface finishes on our parts. Furthermore, we've reduced cycle times by at least a third and we have much greater accuracy.'

The improvements have come from a number of factors, as Mr Dabbs continues: 'The spindle speeds are a lot faster, the rapids and the feeds can also be ramped up to add to reduced production times. We are machining our parts out of EN26W, which is quite a tough  material to cut. With a more robust platform on the new machine, we can implement new cutting techniques with the new Haas. In addition, the solid machine allows us to use new cutting tools and techniques that are not only bringing productivity benefits but also helping us to save on tooling costs and inventory.'

'We have used Haas machines for many years and benefitted from great service and support. So, when it was time to upgrade the 15 year old 5-axis machine, Haas was the natural choice,' concludes Mr Dabbs.
