New ROMI C1600H and a ROMI GL350B CNC turning centre for Arefco

Added to MTDCNC by Romi Machines (UK) Ltd on 30 June 2014

Sitting in the heart of the industrial North East of England, Ashington based Arefco Special Products Ltd has been at the forefront of sealing technologies for over three decades. The company that specialises in the design and manufacture of components from a broad spectrum of advanced elastomeric, plastic and metallic materials is a true expert in rubber to metal bonded solutions.

Arefco has established a global pedigree in oil and gas, renewable energy, mass transit, aerospace & defence and chemical processing industries. To serve its customers with impeccable quality and service levels, the company has a strategy for ongoing investment in best practice technology in place. The most recent addition to the company’s plant list to support this strategy is a new ROMI C1600H and a ROMI GL350B CNC turning centre.

The Romi C-1600H is a heavy duty turning centre that offers a swing over the bed of 1.6m with a 1.2m swing over the cross slide to providing Arefco with all its large turning capacity needs. With an 84KW motor and a spindle hole diameter of 305mm, this powerhouse is drastically cutting production times whilst enabling the company to enhance the quality and consistency of its production. The new machine enables Arefco to machine parts up to 62 inches in diameter with a length of 16foot with a maximum component load of 22 tonnes.

For its smaller components produced in larger batch quantities, Arefco has also acquired a ROMI GL350B turning centre. The delivery of this new machine represents the first of its kind from ROMI in the UK with the ROMI GL350B only being launched in the UK at the Mach 2014 exhibition in April.

Ideal for its smaller parts that demand fast turnaround in batches from 1off to 500, the new GL350B provides the capability to machine both metallic and engineered thermoplastic components. With a maximum machining length of 1.14m, the 18.5KW motor enables the 12 tooling stations to rapidly and efficiently produce the more complex components at Arefco.
