Added to MTDCNC by Romi Machines (UK) Ltd on 11 January 2015

When Cheltenham subcontractor KJE Engineering required a new turning centre for its machine shop, the astute manufacturer spent over two months reviewing the available options. After meticulously reviewing the market KJE Engineering opted for a ROMI C-680 CNC teach lathe.

The reason behind selecting the ROMI C-680 over a vast array of alternative machines were numerous. As a company that processes aluminium and stainless steel billets from Ø400 to Ø600mm to produce parts for the global Semi-Conductor industry, KJE Engineering needed a robust, large capacity machine with a small footprint. Something that ROMI supplied with its C-680 turning centre.

This is the first machine Romi has supplied to KJE, and one key reason was the significant swing over the bed clearance for the limited footprint.  Other factors behind the acquisition include a very competitive price and most importantly guaranteed delivery during the first week of January 2015.

The new Romi C-680 CNC teach lathe has a Siemens 828-D control system that is complete with Shopturn conversational programming, 3-D simulation and colour graphics to offer KJE Engineering manual, semi and full CNC machining capability. Capable of being operated both as a CNC lathe or a manual lathe, the machine is ideal for 1-off’s, the prototyping of new components and production runs.

In addition, the machine is equipped with a Ø400mm manual chuck & 8-station electric disk turret that optimises productivity rates.

With a swing over bed of 680mm, and 2m between centres, a spindle bore of 104mm and a 2 speed geared headstock with a 40hp (30kw) main spindle motor, the ROMI C-680 delivers capacity, rigidity and an exceptional level of power for heavy duty machining.
