Victor nurture RTC into CNC machining

Added to MTDCNC by Victor CNC Ltd on 21 February 2014

When Roll Thread Components (RTC) made its first step into CNC machining, it was intent upon ing a machine tool vendor that would provide high quality, technologically advanced and reliable machine tool solutions with exceptional support levels. The manufacturer of large shafts, U-bolts, threaded bars and industrial fasteners progressed to CNC machining in 2005; ing Victor CNC as its machine tool supplier.

Since purchasing its first machine in 2005, the Cookstown company has followed the acquisition with an additional 5 CNC turning centres from Victor plus the arrival in September 2013 of a VCentre 165 vertical machining centre with a 1,650mm X axis, satisfying the milling of larger components. With heavy duty spindle bearings, tool changeovers of under 2.5 seconds and a two speed gearbox for high torque levels at low speeds, the new VCentre 165 ticks all the boxes for RTC. Producing the majority of parts from mild, tensile and stainless steel, the key ion criteria for RTC was a machining centre with remarkable rigidity and build quality that would be robust enough to serve for years to come whilst maintaining the exceptional precision and productivity levels that the business has become synonymous with.

Achieving all this with the VCentre 165 is credit to Victor, delivering a machining centre capable of both batch production or high speed machining. The BT50 spindle machine incorporates a twin arm type ATC with a 24 tool disk magazine. The combination of a powerful controller, an extremely robust base with box slideways that are cast into the machine and fast tool changeovers, make the VCentre 165 the best all round machine tool in its class.

Furthermore, the 2-speed gearbox coupled with powerful spindle motor offers unrivalled metal removal rates, something that is contributing to the County Tyrone business increasing its productivity and customer base.
Commenting upon the relationship with Victor CNC from introduction through to the latest addition, RTC's Managing Director Mr Roger Gault says: 'Initially, we were looking for a supplier that was going to nurture us through the introduction into CNC machining. We chose Victor CNC as we knew other companies that have Victor machine tools and they gave us extremely positive feedback from machine quality through to service and support. Upon meeting the Victor CNC team, we felt confident that they could bring us through this learning curve.'

'Moving into CNC machining has proven a real eye opener. Now, we are so much more competitive, we have more customers and the components we manufacture are far more complex. Furthermore, the quality of our parts has improved measurably; and when this is combined with our improved productivity and lead times, the result is a business that is continually growing.'

'Victor CNC has undoubtedly played a large part in this growth and their service and support is second to none. They have been brilliant in guiding us through the transition from manual to full CNC manufacture,' concludes Mr Gault.
