Bison Supplying Special Big Bore Chucks and Tool Stations to XYZ

Mike Corbett discusses the Special Chucks and Tool Stations supplied from Bison

Gio Albanese:       We're here at XYZ to have a look at some of the equipment Bison supply to XYZ, and Mike Corbett's here to discuss the chuck and the tool post. Hiya, Mike.

Mike Corbett:       Hiya, Gio. How are you?

Gio Albanese:       I'm very well, thank you. We've got the chuck here from Bison. Now I've heard that they've opened this up specially to match the through-bore of the machine?

Mike Corbett:       That's right. On our 425 GI we have a 80-mil spindle-bore, so what the guys at Bison did is to accommodate bar capacity to open that chuck out for us, so we could make full utilisation of the Spindle-ball.

Gio Albanese:       And how many of these machines are you selling here? I was talking to Mike earlier, he said about 200 chucks a year.

Mike Corbett:       That's right. Yeah, our Proturn range in general is very, very popular in the market because of doing one-off and small batches. So being able to use their chuck, high precision chuck, and also the quick change tool post, both of which we fit as standard on these machines, is proving very popular with our customers.

Gio Albanese:       I mean are they direct-mount chucks?

Mike Corbett:       Yeah they're on D16 and D18 cam lock fittings, depending on the model of Proturn, but we use Bison chucks on all of our Proturn range.

Gio Albanese:       And I think for the educational industry, for universities and colleges, these are a massive hit aren't they?

Mike Corbett:       Oh absolutely. You already know that education is a big part of our business. So integrating that into the machine and getting people to use the equipment that's standard within industry is a good thing for education.

Gio Albanese:       And in regards to the service and support that you get from Bison, can you comment on that?

Mike Corbett:       Oh yeah, Mike and his team are very good. They're regular visitors down to XYZ, to make sure that the quality of the product is always there, and if we're introducing new things and new ranges, you know that new tooling comes out very quickly, so tool-holders are very important in holding that technology of tooling.

Gio Albanese:       And Mike it's been brilliant to talk to you about this. Thank you very much for your time.

Mike Corbett:       Have a good day Gio.
