Nealon Engineering use Hexagon for their metrology needs

The Wild Atlantic Way is a touring route all along the west coast of Ireland taking in a unique mix of cliffs, beaches and is reknowned for stunning scenery all along. Just off the route, in Yeats country on the North West coast, near Sligo, is the village of Collooney, and in it’s small business park a small ambitious subcontract toolmaker called Nealon Engineering.

Owner operated, and employing around 20 people, it is the very definition  of an SME. The owner, and plant manager, Martin Nealon, doesn’t sit in a fancy office looking at spreadsheets, he is on the shopfloor, working and helping his small team make some very complex tools and fixtures for Ireland’s burgeoning medical device manufacturing businesses.

Despite, and maybe because of, their small size and geographical remoteness, Nealon is a modern, forward thinking company investing in software and hardware making them  more efficient and productive than their competitors. Quality and accuracy drive all this productivity and in 2015, Martin Nealon recognised that his metrology capability needed investment and improvement and he consulted with several metrology providers.

He decided to purchase a Pre-owned DEA Mistral CMM with PC-DMIS CAD from Hexagon, through local agent, Inspection Equipment.
Software is key to metrology capability, and PCDMIS provided Nealon with the power of programming and reporting, not available in other “cheaper” solutions.

They may purchase a new machine in future but the “Quality Approved” 2nd user option provided by Hexagon with a new license of PCDMIS 2016 proved the most efficient way for Nealon to get their steps on the CMM ladder.
