Floyd Marks Its Intentions With New Product Lines at MACH 2018

The distinctive Orange stand of Floyd Automatic Tooling Ltd will be back at MACH in 2018 with yet more tooling innovations and accessories. Widely recognised as the ‘go-to’ company for the complete range of solutions for sliding head lathe users, Floyd Automatic will be keen to highlight that its extensive product lines for advanced machining technologies are also industry leaders for high performance milling, drilling and precision work holding.

On stand H20-620, the Baldock specialist will be highlighting everything from cutting tool solutions, collets, guide bushes, bar feed collets and associated tooling that are all core products. With a host of new technologies introduced to market over the last 12 months, Floyd Automatic will be keen to introduce the new Applitec Top Line inserts and coatings that improve machining performance on a host of material types.

Alongside the extensive Applitec Top Line will be the new Masa Microconic sub spindle collets. Precise and stable clamping of small workpieces in the sub-spindles of sliding head machines has long been an issue for turned part manufacturers. Floyd has pioneered many solutions in this area, but this latest development in association with MASA tools is revolutionising precision workholding.

To truly understand the Microconic revolution, manufacturers must first consider that only three things are in physical contact with the workpiece, the cutting tool, coolant/cutting fluid and the workholding.  The Microconic over-grip collet system ultimately allows manufacturers to rethink what is possible. This remarkable new workholding system consists of a cartridge and precision collet. The over-grip collet fits inside a cartridge and is accurately adjusted before it is fitted directly into the existing collet sleeve with no machine adaptations are required. The patented over-grip collets can open up to 4mm larger than the clamping diameter and also incorporate an ejection guide sleeve blank. This helps the end user to solve the difficulty of ejecting parts from the collets after machining. Ideal for processing parts with stepped features such as connectors, screws or other common components, the over-clamp system can clamp over the protruding features and securely clamp on the main body of components.

The collets are available with clamping diameters from 0.2mm to 10mm, meaning the most fragile of parts can be clamped safely and precisely. With a concentricity level between 3 to 5 microns, the Masa Microconic System is ideal for Sliding head lathes like Tornos, Citizen and Star and it is currently available for F20 and F25 style collets.

For components to be permanently marked to an impeccable standard, Floyd Automatic Tooling will be introducing the latest Hommel+Keller brand of Zeus marking systems at MACH 2018. It is well recognized that the Zeus range of marking tools from Hommel+Keller GmbH can be integrated smoothly into a production process on all standard turning and machining centres, meaning the end of manual re-tooling on separate machines. This enables components to be processed on a single machine as part of the machining process, improving process stability, repeatability and precision.

Also making a debut at MACH will be the enhanced FLO-Tool Triple back-working holders and the Schwanog Form tool program for users of turning centres and sliding head centres. Furthermore, Floyd will be introducing a full range of high performance milling tools and the Nutex slotting tools from Alesa of Switzerland. For users of tool and cutter grinders like Anca, Walter Helitronic, Schneeburger, Studer, Strausak and Vollmer; manufacturers can look out for the latest range of Schaublin work holding solutions. Innovations for these machines will include the SRS Runout Adjustment System and the recently launched Cartridge System with interchangeable adaptors.
