Guhring is ‘Brexit Ready’

MTDCNC’s Giovanni recently visited Guhring UK in the centre of Birmingham to discuss the looming ‘deadline day’ of Brexit and how it will affect one of the UK’s leading cutting tool companies.

Aside from being disillusioned by the lack of government progress, like the rest of the industry, Guhring UK’s Managing Director, Mr Chris Weston tells MTD: “If we get a deal or remain in Europe, there will be no change to business and we can all carry-on as before. If there is a no-deal, Guhring UK is in a fantastic position to service the cutting tool requirements of the UK.  We have large stock levels on the shelves in the UK, which are full of standard product lines. As we also manufacture and service here in the UK, this puts us in a great position that removes the uncertainty that surrounds many tooling suppliers that do not have our combination of a UK manufacturing facility or significant stock and storage capabilities.”

“We stock in the region of 60,000 line items on the shelf with over £5m of standard product stock sat here ready to supply. There are probably another 40,000 line items that are special made to order products that are also readily available from the Aston factory in the heart of Birmingham.” In preparation for ‘any’ Brexit eventuality, Guhring has added a further £1m of standard stock items to its armoury from Germany, bulging the existing stock availability to a level that will ensure continuity of stock and service supply throughout any potential turbulent period. “In addition to the extensive stock levels and special manufacturing services, we also have a complete re-grind to ‘as new’ service in the UK. This means that Guhring can prolong the service life and continuity of supply far beyond most cutting tool vendors in the UK,” concludes Mr Weston.
