Tungaloy Turns on Efficiency With New 10-Sided Insert Line

Efficient, economical and highly productive turning operations have now been taken to a new level with the arrival of the new TurnTenFeed turning series from Tungaloy UK. The innovative new toolholder and indexable insert line is the first choice heavy industrial applications that demand a productive ‘all-rounder’ for general and large part machining.

The heavy-duty series has been developed with a double-sided 10 cornered M-class insert that can offer a depth of cut up to 7mm and a maximum feed per revolution of 2mm. To attain robust and rigid machining conditions, Tungaloy has introduced two toolholder configurations, the HF tool holder for high-feed turning and the HD holder for large depths of cut. The toolholders are available with shank dimensions of 25mm or 32mm square and a precision seat ensures uncompromising positional repeatability and clamping stability that is underpinned by a dovetail clamping system that improves chip flow. Furthermore, with just a spring pin, lever and clamping screw, the TurnTenFeed demonstrates rapid insert changes with unparalleled positional repeatability.

The TurnTenFeed toolholders have been developed with a 108 degree obtuse angle. Whilst this design has not been developed for machining corners, the material removal capabilities and productivity rates are beyond compare with machining efficiency improvements beyond 130%, which are proven under test conditions. To achieve such staggering productivity gains, the R&D engineers at Tungaloy have introduced a new style MNW style chipbreaker that features protrusions on the rake face to facilitate smooth and efficient swarf flow whilst achieving exceptional crater and wear resistance. In addition, the 10 sided inserts have been designed with a straight-wiper design that is built into the cutting edge to facilitate superior machining performance and higher feed rates.

The new TurnTenFeed inserts have been produced with three different Tungaloy grade compositions that cater for the complete range of steel, stainless steel, cast iron and challenging aerospace grade aluminium, nickel and cobalt alloys. The T9125, T9215 and T9225 insert grades have TiCN and TiAlN composition that maximises tool life, consistency and performance when machining large components or performing unmanned machining.
