IMTS 2018 – What to Look Out For This September!

We are less than a month from this year’s IMTS (International Manufacturing Technology Show) being held in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. with many visitors planning to see top quality machine tools. With many of our principals demonstrating and showing quality machine tools, it’s definitely something you wouldn’t want to miss this September.

One of our longest established principals, Toshiba Machine, has announced its presence at the show and will be introducing their Horizontal Machining Centre – BM-1000(Q) and TUE-200(S). This quality machine tool is perfect for industries within aerospace, automotive, marine, oil & gas and power generation. This machine is fitted with a Ø200mm W axis quill for improved reach and has a BBT50 face/taper contact spindle running at 6000rpm, developing 1600N.m of torque using a 30kW motor. The spindle is cooled using a chiller unit and a high-power spindle is available for heavier cutting. The BM-U model is fitted with a rotary A axis head with a spindle speed of 12000rpm, driven by a 64kW motor developing 236N.m of torque. The head indexes at ±95° from the horizontal plane presenting an angular approach to workpieces for compound work and providing improved tool clearance. The BM-H high speed model is fitted with an HSK63A spindle running at a speed of up to 20000rpm. The spindle is driven by a 51kW motor developing 89N.m of torque. The 35000kg machine mass is indicative of its robust and rigid structure and, as a result of careful structural design based on overt 40 years of experience on building machining centres, Toshiba have kept the BM-Q size down to 5.5M wide and 8M deep – resulting in a low 800kg/M² floor loading. Kitamura will be presenting a wide range of machine tools including the brand new Medcenter-5AX, Mytrunnion 4G, HX250iG and many more. The Medcenter-5AX has been design to save space with a floor area of 2M x 1.2M, perfect if space is limited within your manufacturing facilities. The machine is perfect for the Medical industry and has a maximum workpiece size of Ø180 x 175mm, maximum spindle speed 30,000rpm, 40 ATC and a maximum weight of 2kg. This machine can be fitted with an automatic parts storage and retrieval unit. The Mytrunnion-4G is ideal for high precision 5-axis machining, with the sliding overhead doors providing easy access for loading and unloading of workpieces up to a diameter of Ø550mm, 400mm high and weighing up to 200kg. This super accurate 5-axis machining centre is perfect for production of small to medium complex parts in a single set-up. The highest grade of meehanite cast iron is used for its construction, providing superior vibration absorption and resulting in improved surface finishes. The new arrival has a dual contact BBT40 15,000 rpm spindle driven by a 15kW motor. Find Kitamura at Level 3, Metal Cutting – Booth 339148.

Gruppo Parpas is another principal that will be at this year’s IMTS and being one of the major manufacturers of medium to large CNC metal cutting machine tool suppliers. They have announced that the Diamond 30 and Roller XL will be the two machine tools to see at IMTS this September. The Diamond gantry style 5 axis machining centre is perfect for manufacturing of moulds, dies and complex aerospace components. The fixed table and moving gantry design permits loads of up to 20 tons to be processed. High speed movement is achieved by the use of linear motor drives. The Roller is a fixed gantry offering maximum flexibility through a wide variety of table configurations and spindle heads. The square or round continuous rotary table, capable of carrying loads up to 3500kg, can also be supplied for turning applications up to 600rpm. The continuous universal head is fitted with a high torque 18000rpm spindle or other spindle options are available. Find Gruppo Parpas at South Building – Level 3, Metal Cutting – Booth 338959.

FFG DMC will be at this years’ show and they will be exhibiting their impressive CNC turning centres DL60VM, DL6G, DL8T, DL22LB and the DL25SY. These slant gang-type lathes offer a cost-effective solution for high productivity applications where a limited number of tools is required. Fast axis traverses, double anchored ballscrews and superior rigidity ensure precision machining of high volume components. You can find FFG DMC at South Building, Level 3, Booth S338129.
