100th anniversary drill: KOMET KUB 100

The combined expertise of two global tool specialists KOMET and CERATIZIT has come together in a joint development project to mark the 100th anniversary of KOMET. The result – indexable insert drill the KUB 100 – delivers top-quality performance in the machining of extremely diverse materials. CERATIZIT will be appearing at AMB 2018 in Hall 1, Stand B10/12, and in the CERATIZIT Jacques Lanners Hall (Hall 3), Stand B11.

KOMET has been an established specialist in drilling with indexable inserts for more than forty years. CERATIZIT has been a familiar name in carbide and coating solutions for 95 years and has produced many innovations in this sector. The combination of this expertise in a joint development project led to the creation of the new KUB 100, which provides excellent quality, handling, performance and reliability.

The development team successfully united the innovative ideas of the two in a single new, high-performance product. Many years of experience in designing base bodies using the Finite Element Method (FEM) enabled the team to design large chip channels without significant detriment to the rigidity or tensile strength. This created space for effective chip removal. The innovative indexable insert contour along with modern chip breaker geometry ensures effective chip control during bore machining of a variety of different workpiece materials. These geometric features have significantly improved spot drilling results in particular. This makes the drilling process incredibly efficient.

Powder metallurgical expertise, state-of-the-art coating technology and innovative tool design have come together to create a milestone in drilling technology. One grade, one indexable insert geometry (interior and exterior) – for all common workpiece materials. This reduces complexity in handling, as well as the cost of keeping items in stock. This makes the KUB 100 a high-performance all-rounder providing the ultimate in productivity and reliability.

The KUB 100 represents the first joint development project between KOMET and CERATIZIT and is a clear indication of the way the team has successfully integrated in a short period of time. It comes as no surprise then that the tool resulting from this project represents state-of-the-art technology in the indexable insert drill sector, featuring excellent performance, handling, process capability and efficiency.

The KOMET KUB 100 drill will be launched at AMB 2018 in length/diameter ratio 3xD and in diameters from 14 to 27 mm.
