Plenty on show from Gewefa and its partners at EMO!

Gewefa, the leading independent supplier of toolholding and technology products for metal cutting processes is planning a comprehensive presence at the forthcoming EMO exhibition.  In addition, its partners in the UK – EWS, OTT-Jakob, Pibomulti, Nann and Rineck – are all exhibiting in their own right with the show acting as a platform for the introduction of a number of new products.

On the Gewefa stand, featured for the first time will be the innovative M96+ER hydraulic chuck with an external thread connection which now permits connection to all driven tools with ER spindles.

The M96+ER hydraulic chuck is a highly flexible toolholding system that fixes on the collet location of ER driven head spindles.  And, being a hydraulic chuck, it offers exceptional all around grip on the cutter with anti-vibration damping for improved surface finish.

Face and taper toolholders will also feature prominently. The Gewefa family of toolholders in this format is one of the most extensive available and now covers BT and DIN formats in SK30, 40 and 50 tapers to offer comprehensive capability for heavy duty and very high speed machining applications.

Gewefa face and taper toolholders are available as collet chucks, shell mills, face mills, shrink clamp, hydraulic chucks and in extended length and adaptor formats.

Machining using face and taper toolholding technology comes into its own when metal cutting in applications where side thrust is a possibility – typically heavy duty milling operations.

Here, side deflection could be detrimental to precision and consistency of cut. In such circumstances the rigidity of the spindle/toolholder connection can impact positively on longer insert life.

Another focus product is the HydroPin single point boring bar toolholder.  This Gewefa invented toolholder utilises the proven tool grip features of a hydraulic chuck with the added advantage of guaranteeing fixed orientation when positioning the bar.

By eliminating the previously accepted method of securing boring bars by fitting an adaptor reduction sleeve into a VDI mechanical boring bar holder the opportunities for inaccuracy and bar deflection during boring operations are now greatly reduced.

EWS, the driven tool experts, are introducing a new intelligent tool monitoring technique called CyberCon4 which monitors a range of processes within the tool in order to optimise its performance.   Functions such as run time, rotational speed, temperature, seal condition, battery status and maintenance schedules are monitored with data fed back from the sensor by low energy, blue tooth technology.

Swiss speeder and angle head specialist Pibomulti has a further addition to its Rainbow range of angle heads. The latest head is able to clamp up to a Ø12mm tool shank via a Gewefa hydraulic clamping system which also eliminates the use of reduction sockets.

Also new is a fully mechanical 360° orientation head which is particularly suited for use in a Makino Mag1 tool changer due to its compact size.  Able to index at any orientation, the air input is through the centre of the input shaft (to actuate the 360° pneumatic system).

German machine tool accessory specialistOTT-Jakob will be introducing an all-in-one rotary union with an innovative monitoring function.

The 2KA-ME union combines proven twin channel technology for the hydraulic release and integrated media transfer with state-of-the-art clamping condition sensor technology. The electronic position monitoring system records the exact position of the drawbar from which the current tool position can be derived with high precision.

The new union represents a weight-reduced alternative to conventional solutions with signal rings. It is supplied ready-to-use with the system preconfigured during spindle production using the Windows application MSU Configurator to facilitate on-site setup and avoiding time-consuming mechanical adjustment work.

Finally collet specialist Nann will be featuring two new developments.

The new MSK manually operated collet chucks are universal and can be used for both external and internal clamping while the latest spindle unit range are for use with draw-back collets, dead length collets and expanding collets.

Heat shrink clamping machine expert Rineck will be featuring bench top, free-standing and fully automatic machines from its range.
