Tornos Brings Micro Machining Solution to MACH 2018

AT MACH 2018, Tornos will be introducing its industry leading SwissNano turning centre for the machining of particularly small parts alongside the MultiSwiss 8X26, which will receive its UK exhibition debut.

On Stand H19-312 at the Birmingham NEC from the 9th to 13th April, Tornos will offer a complete contrast in technology with the astoundingly productive and flexible MultiSwiss and the micron precise SwissNano. Tornos has an unsurpassed reputation for bar turning for the watchmaking industry and this is where the SwissNano has its foundations. When the SwissNano was introduced, it was evident that no manufacturer had ever moved so far ahead in design, ergonomics and integration research with regard to a human-machine interface.

The 4mm capacity machine occupies a remarkably small footprint and offers the user complete 180° access. Intended to be a turning centre for watchmakers, Tornos UK has witnessed significant success amongst manufacturers producing small connectors and electronic components. With a footprint of 1.8 by 0.65 by 1.6m (LxWxH), the SwissNano incorporates an X1/Y1 tooling platten with seven turning tools with maximum shank dimensions of 8 X 8mm. The SwissNano also has the capacity for four end mounted tools with a diameter up to 16mm as well as another three end mounted tools for counter-operations. To meet the specific needs of the end user, the SwissNano is available with optional extras such as a gear hobbing device, transverse drilling, HF spindles and polygon tools.
The 1kW induction motorised spindle and counter spindle are both capable of a maximum speed of 16,000rpm. Furthermore the SwissNano offers fixed, rotating and guide-bushless operation to ensure the customer receives the machine capable of producing all their part configurations in this diameter range. The SwissNano also offers peripheral additions such as a carousel collection system, vacuum part extraction, smoke extractor and fire fighting system.

The SwissNano includes a precision tool setting system using a sensor and feeler probe. The aim of this is to provide a user-friendly system able to position the tools to within 3 to 8µ, according to the bar diameter. The greatest advance may be in terms of communication. The SwissNano can report through a graphic tablet with all basic production data such as workpieces, products, machine, bar changeover, fleet monitoring being reported on this interface. At a glance, the operator can access all the data for a specific machine or for a whole fleet of machines.

At the other end of the spectrum, Tornos will be looking forward to MACH visitor reaction to the MultiSwiss 8X26. As one of a family of 3 machines ranging from 14 to 32mm spindle sizes, the 26mm diameter capacity MultiSwiss 8X26 is equipped with eight spindles and eight slides for main operations with up to three tools per slide. With eight highly dynamic synchronous 11kW motor-spindles and ultra-fast barrel indexing, the new MultiSwiss 8X26 also provides 8 x C-axis and a counter spindle. As an option, the machine can be equipped with Y axes to further boost its capabilities.  From an ergonomic perspective, MultiSwiss machines are as accessible as single-spindle machines and a single-spindle machine operator can quickly become a MultiSwiss operator. As quick to set up as a single-spindle turning machine, the key difference is that the MultiSwiss is at least five times as productive as a single-spindle turning machine.

If you have problems machining small parts that demand a degree of flexibility and productivity or if you need to ramp up your productivity but are pushed for space in your crammed machine shop, its time you visited Stand H19-312 at MACH to take a look at what Tornos can offer.
