BIG KAISER Boring Head Automatic Size Change Tool – i4.0 – ITC

The recent AMB exhibition was a great opportunity for MTD to take a closer look at the technology on show. MTD’s Joe had a tour of the BIG KAISER booth to investigate the latest digital opportunities.

Available in the UK from Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC), the BIG KAISER brand is a market leader in innovation and telling us a little more about the EWE boring system, BIG KAISER’s Lucas Thalmann from the R&D department says: “The EWE is a product development of tools we already have without electronics. So, the tools remain the same but they now have new digital solutions. We have introduced target parameters for bores such as diameters and depths. Once we have our parameters, we can adjust the tool diameter manually with digital assistance, as the diameter is acknowledged and adjusted ‘live’ on smart devices.”

“When the tool setting is close to the target diameter, the on-screen colour coding changes to visually notify the operator when they are close to the correct parameters with ‘green being good’ for machining. Alongside this, we have the new EWA, which integrates with the machine tool. This excludes the machine operator from the adjustment process, this means the new tool can adjust itself, so we have an App that communicates with the tool and we can tell the App to adjust dimensions and it can do this whilst eliminating shop floor error potential.”
